Very scarce. Thick grey-blue textured card covers with 24 glossy pages inside.
The catalogue produced for the Sladmore Gallery exhibition in aid of the Far Eastern Prisoners of War Association, which celebrates the creative work of Lt. Col. A.A. Johnson, M.C. and those in the 4th Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment who were inspired by him.
Incl. a Foreword by The Earl of Mountbatten, who opened the exhibition, and an Introduction by Ronald Hastain OBE, a fellow-prisoner with Col. Johnson.
Incl. over 20 black & white photos of artwork, mostly botanical but also a panto poster, a deck of handmade cards, a portrait and a map.
In very good condition for age. Crisp and clean; beginning to yellow a little inside and the outside edges of the covers are also a little age toned. At the top of the Foreword page there is an inscription in ink: “A most precious [underlined] book – a record of men’s courage + endurance.”, initialled W.V.S[?].
